I was never happy about a test ride, while the boats are in winter storage.
Wait until a REAL test ride can be done.

a 5.0 anything is a bit small pushing a 24 ft boat
this . They are both 5.0 in relatively big boats. I think my good friend has the same crownline very nice boat But he has the 300 hp 350 mag and I think it is under powered.
not trying to dissuade u as i commend having a price range just be realistic about it. We have a 21 ft with a 5.0 which is good size for our family and a few friends. We have a house on a lake so are not on the boat all day. If you are 24 ft is good size for 2 families. You can always prop down in pitch to ski or wakeboard , try it and step up later if boating catches on with your family. Certainly at these prices can’t go too wrong

engine pics on merc powered boat don’t look like it was cared for…

Ive owned Rinkers, Liberators, Hurricane 232 and an old BlueFin Spectrum in my lifetime...Boats are money pits....I do have a boat mechanic that I have known for 10 years and he would be the one doing the work as I dont have the knowledge or tools to dive into it.

Just doing my best to read and get educated on the model and motors...

The only other one im looking at is a 2004 Monterey Explorer 263 w/ Merc 320 6.2L with MPI & B3 outdrive with low hours.same price range for this boat, has more power but slightly larger.

When you have a load of passengers and you get caught in a sudden high wind and 3 foot waves. Can not turn the new Chaparral 19' around because the boat would fill instantly. And your 5.0 is at 4000 rpms. You know you should have had the largest motor installed. When I ordered the boat new.
All boat motors have a throttle. Big engines are quieter & save gasoline at normal cruise speeds. Been there several times.

Pretty wild statement. When was a 19' boat brought into this thread ? Might as well said 15 ' . " Big engines are quieter & save gasoline at normal cruise speeds . No they are not quieter , my 454s have a 5 " exhaust outlet , my 305s have a 3" outlet , 454s are louder . Science speaking here , it takes X amount of gas to produce Y amount of hp . So let's say you need 150hp out of 330hp to cruise at say 22mph . To produce that 150 hp the same amount of fuel is needed, regardless of the engine size . That's with all things being equal ,boat, gears ,props, load etc.

Ever try using mufflers ?
Uhhhh , inboards come with mufflers , inline or cans , my 305s are inline and the 454s are the larger cans . They can " discharge " out the stern , sides or at a 45* angle where the transom and side meet . Bigger engines have bigger exhaust ,they have to breathe , in and out and that usually translates to more noise .
