Hi, I have one with skeg like this.
Any way to get something to replace it without welding?
All the stuff on internet goes on the top of existing skeg just to protect it...
Tnx.

Those gearcases are NOT robust.-----Only a gearcase from 89 to 92 will fit..----I would take that apart for inspection and have a shop weld a new skeg on it,

Welding is the only way I would go with that. If there is a prop shop in your area, they would probably Heli Arc it up and dress it up for you.

I weld replacement skegs on daily. This is the only way to go. I also recommend that the welder use a proper cast aluminum replacement skeg. Repairs using plate just don't work well. A company out of Texas, skeg depot, makes the cleanest replacement castings that I have found. Leave the oil in it for the repair, it helps as a heat sink.
