Hi, I got this motor (85ML79R) with Manual Tilt Assist Shock Absorber already disconnected and extended all the way.
I found notes on the web that say it is very difficult to compress it back, but not able to find any recommendations how actually to put it back on the motor.
Before I do "wrong things" maybe someone can share this info to save me from trouble?

Thanks.

Maybe this set of manuals for your '79: https://www.ebay.com/itm/383757343755?hash=item5959b85c0b:g:JOkAAOSwPUNff6-f

(Think you will likely need an engine hoist.)
Thanks for the link.
I do have OMC manual for 1978 model which is basically the same. It only describes power trim and tilt.
Also, I got PDF manual for wide range of models that only mentions manual tilt and recommends not to take it off because it is "difficult to put it back".

I do have the hoist...

Lift the engine off the transom with the hoist, attaching to the powerhead (flywheel lift bracket or factory bracket behind the flywheel). Secure it taking weight off the transom bracket. I believe the bottom bracket for the manual tilt shock absorber can be removed if there is no weight. With the motor placed in what would be the full tilt position, you may be able to attach the top of the absorber first (your pic is reversed, top to bottom), then the lower bracket. If so, and with some luck, the motor should tilt down again when mounted on transom. Your manual should have a diagram showing the parts in the exhaust housing blowup. Don't get hurt!
