I just got a boat that has been sitting in my relatives backyard, uncovered, for about 5 years. There is no real damage to the to outside of the boat. My main concern is the interior. Can anyone give me advice on how to bring this boat back from its leafy grave??? I want to do all the work myself to save $$$$$. I have some skills, but i am no where near a pro. I am very dedicated to this project and am a fast learner. I also have friends in construction who r willing to help me out. I have included a pic of the inside and will upload more throughout the day.

Thanks to all,

Jimmy

Re: Need Advice

If the floor is rotten or soft you will have alot of work - seats can be purchased online including at IBOATS. Before you get too involved with the rebuild have someone check out the motor and other mechanics.

How very true. Nothing like spending a lot of time and money then find out you engine is toast. You're going to find a lot of help here, just cruise through some of the posts ( search function helps ) and be prepared to read for a bit.
One little bit of advise I will send your way - don't start too many projects at one time. Find a project then stick with it to the end. You may get bored doing one thing and then want to do something else - don't !
It will come together. :D

Re: Need Advice

there is no other mech. and there is no motor...... i will eventually need to buy an outboard motor. Is fiber glassing hard??? I see its not too expensive. Also, i was thinking about reinforcing the benches with 1in boards and putting rails on them to slide seats and backs. Do u think this will work???

Re: Need Advice

No motor sure makes things a tad bit easier - inspection wise.

Doing fiberglass work is not a walk in the park but not extremely difficult either. There a many sources available to show you how. Go to You Tube and have a look there. The much forgot about public library is an excellent source as well. Of course the internet is chock full of instructions. With your boat I'd stay with polyester resin. Much cheaper than epoxy and for your application will work just fine.
1" boards seem like a little overkill - 3/4 will work fine. The slider system you're thinking about sounds like a great idea but I have my concerns about maintenance. Seems like a lot of money just to be able to move those seats a few inches.
Ah, either way it's your boat so have at it. Post some pics with the results.
