whats up folks? i have an idea in my head and i'm not sure how to do it. i want to put a jet ski motor(a powerful one) in a 2072 sea ark. however i have a few questions
what motor should i use considering the fully loaded weight of this boat will be close to the 1700 to 1900 pound range?
how do i keep the intake from sucking up debris when moving slowly in shallow water(less than 2 feet)?
how will i rig up the steering(i wanna use a center console)
is there a motor with reverse?

my reason for wanting to do this is because i do alot of fishing in shallow rivers here in southside va and doing so i go through several props on my outboard every year. and the cost of an jet drive outboard is too rich for my blood. i feel like i could find a ski with a busted hull or a blown engine and rebuild it cheaper and install it and rig it cheaper than the cost of a newer outboard. i also feel like with a jet sticking out the transom will also allow me to run shallower water than with a jet drive outboard. any advice is greatly appreciated

Do not know how a jet ski jet is set up but my sport jet boat has the jet drive built into the underside of the hull . that would entail alot of fab work to build it into a outboard style boat hull.
Also there is no way to avoid debris from getting sucked into the intake grate .
No reverse that I am aware of other than the standard reverse gate that directs the jet flow under the boat , hence "reverse" I know people who wound up spending 3k to 5k to upgrade a 90 hp jet drive boat to 120 or even 175 hp . that was with the hull set up for a Jet

Do ALOT of research prior to starting this .. sounds huge time and $$$ to me

I personally think you would be much better off with a jet drive outboard , that way you could trim it up to clean the intake area vs diving in the water to clean one built into the hull. Do a search for pine needles on this forum, I posted on intake grate problems and got some good feedback on it .
