Gunk in my filter:

Inside of the who-knows-how-old fuel lines looks OK:

Less than 6-month old Quicksilver OEM bulb, not so good:

So please specifically recommend me a good primer bulb (manufacturer and part number) you have personally used, that seems to hold up to the E10 and the UV and whose check valves hold up.

EDIT: I am looking to replace all the rubber between the tank and the carbs, so if someone has had good experience with one of those pre-made outboard fuel line assemblies (e.g., the Sierra Silverado 3000 series, the Moeller low-perm, or those blue Marpac deals), let me know.

My 1999 Yamaha has all original fuel lines, primer bulb and connections, and I run ethanol gas with Stabil and Ringfree, never any problems with any of this. All my fuel lines look like new. That's my experience, so far, so good!

Brand? Model? (Or was it a "Walmart" house brand/generic?)

I was gonna blame this on Southern California gas, guess that's out

My 1964 OEM Johnson/OMC bulb is still OK. My 2007 OEM Yamaha bulb got hard as a rock after only 3 years.

I replaced it with a Sierra I bought at my dealer. I believe NAPA carries them (or will order them) as well. They come in 2 sizes - buy the one for the size hose you use.

The Silverado stuff is junk. You want quality components in a fuel system. This is no place for big box store junk.

Replace everything with Gates or Trident, B-1 rated marine hose and get an OEM primer bulb. My preference for primer bulbs is Evinrude Johnson. They even work on Mercs ;)

Re: Need a recommendation for a new primer bulb

I have seen many negative reviews on the Silverado 3000. I even called Sierra and according to them 3000 does suck and there is a new Silverado 4000 product that is supposed to be uber-awesome. I can't find any and I bet it will be co$tly. I don't give 2 craps about low-perm or CARB or EPA ratings on this setup, I just want something that will survive the fuel.

I have used OEM bulbs (the one in the pic above is OEM, less than 6 months old). Never had any luck. Maybe super-new ones are made of the super-rubber, I dunno. I was hoping someone would give me a manufacturer and a part number of a primer or a primer assembly they've liked. No one has.

dingbat, shouldn't I be using type A hose after the fuel pump?

And is there any specific reason to seek type B hose (rather than also use type A) for the pre-pump line?

Like I said above, Evrinude Johnson primer bulbs. I run 1000-1500 gallons a season thru one. I?ve never had a failure. Change them ever 4-5 years as preventative maintenance.

A2 is primarily used for installation under the deck. I ran A2 from my fuel tanks, thru the Racor and out to the primer bulb. I ran B1 from the primer bulb to the fuel pump. You can run A2 all the way to the motor but A2 is a lot stiffer and a lot larger in diameter than B1 and doesn?t behave nearly as well in the umbilical cord.

Serria is a distributor. Hard telling where their hose comes from. Stick with a name brand like Trident or Gates
