Need a new fishing boat

I've been using an 12' aluminum fishing boat for years, very basic, with a 7 1/2hp outboard and a 30lb trolling motor.

I live on a lake now, and that lake is too big for this boat, I'm thinking of a 14'-16' boat with at least a 60hp engine. I just need something thats faster and more stable than what I have now, the winds pick up on this lake quick and within a minute theres waves large enough to cause me to have to head home.

I've been looking at Yamaha, but Yamaha is ALL I've been looking at. I'm ignorant to the companies that are out there right now, I haven't a clue what to look at.

The only other features I require are a aluminum hull....a console (captains chair and wheel) and perhaps a optional open cabin (for those rainy days)

A live catch basin would be nice as well...

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm open to all suggestions :D

Yep, Lund is a great boat. We've got the 1750 Fisherman, probably more than you need, but it handles big water really well. The problem is Lund is kinda pricey.

Another good choice is Alumacraft. I've toured their factory in St. Peter, MN and they do indeed make a fine boat, and at reasonable prices. Also, you can hang whatever brand of motor on the transom, including the Yamaha you've been looking at (whereas Lund is married to Mercury). Alumacraft and Yamaha make for a great rig.

Crestliner is good, too, but they're a little heavier than Alumacraft, which in turn is a little heavier than Lund.

And then, of course, there's Tracker, the largest manufacturer of aluminum boats in the U.S. Their boats are okay, but don't quite have the quality, or the resale value, of the other three.

All of the above manufacturers have somewhat decent websites to explore.

Stubblejumper's Rebel 1625 is a nice boat that will give years of good service and hold its resale value pretty well compared to the others. Lund also now offers a lifetime transferable warranty on certain areas of the hull and all of the marine plywood in its boats.

Actually the Lund brochure does say that Honda engines are available as an option. However because Mercury is normally packaged with Lund, the Mercury was quite a bit cheaper. If the price was closer,I would have seriously considered Honda.I would not consider Yamaha even if it was an option, because there are far fewer Yamaha marine dealers where I live.Mercury is by far the most common, with Honda second.

As for the Lund Rebel, the price was quite comparable to Crestliner and Alumacraft. It was even less than the smaller Lund 1625 classic.
