Navy boats?

Ok, so, in sea scouting, some of the different units are able to acquire ex- navy vessels through donation or whatever (coast guard vessels as well). I've also noticed pleasure boaters as well using ex- military vessels as yachts. I was wondering, is there some magical way of attaining these boats? I've searched the internet, but no luck, asked around, etc. Someday, I'd like to create my own sea scout unit, and have an ex- navy boat to boast as a training vessel. Where do they come from???

Re: Navy boats?

local law enforcement often buys and sells military grade boats. Typical wasteful government; got to buy brand new, neglect it, and sell to replace after only a couple of years.

Boston Whaler makes a military grade and it has a door in the side. Divers love them when they find them used.

Yup, so I look on all these sites. And I guess I should rephrase. How do people end up getting these boats donated? Ex- navy/ military, etc? I know there's a process involved once the vessels are decommissioned from service, but I guess I've forgotten... And thanks for the sites, lets me see a lot of pictures (I am interested in the interior design of boats :D)

I suppose you could contact the public relations officer at nearby Navy and Coast Guard installations. They may be able to give you some guidance.
