Nautolex Vinyl Question.

For all of those that have installed Nautolex vinyl on their decks.

How slick is the regular vinyl deck covering when it gets wet? Does it get slicker in cold weather?

I see they have the regular vinyl and the non-skid deco-dot vinyl and I can't decide between the 2. I'd like to save a little money with the regular, but if it gets real slick when wet or in cold weather I'd probably need to go with the deco-dot material.

Thanks for your help.

Not slick AT ALL. In my opinion, having seen both materials, the deco dot would be potentially slicker. I LOVE my vinyl deck.

+1 on EZ - I have used both and would not recommend the Decko Dot - the little dots scuff off - it is one color so it shows everything...,.

jigngrub,

What kind of boat? In my experience, if you are installing on a flat surface such that you can glue down, wrap the edges, and staple it down (like the decking of a tinny, or hatch covers, or the like), Nautolex is great. But if it's a fiberglass boat's deck--particularly with any complex curvature--and all you can do is glue it down, it is not so great.

Re: Nautolex Vinyl Question.

Thanks for the replies! I'll go with the regular Nautolex.

I'll be doing the deck in my Tracker Pro Deep V tinny. The 5 decking panels and 2 side storage panels will be wrapped individually, glued and stapled. The panels will be fastened to the framing through the vinyl and plywood for easy removal later on should I have to work on something below deck (livewell, rivets, hull repair). I'll be able to remove the deck panels without having to tear off my nice Nautolex vinyl.

I put the deco-dot in my Alumacraft when I redid it and like it most of the time,..

BUT,.....It is horrible if you fish in the winter or a snowstorm,......

Re: Nautolex Vinyl Question.

I have Nautolex in my 18'er and have fished it for 1 1/2 years now, all year long. No problems with traction in the winter or the decks rain soaked, evenwearing big clunky insulated boots. Though, I haven't had the decks iced up, doesn't get that cold around here often.

I agree with vinyling each panel separate, it saved my butt when I had to replace my fuel tank. One thing, use SS staples. I curse the day I decided to use Monel staples as they bent a LOT! I went through 3-4 boxes with about 30% bent staples, then had to get SS staples when Lowes was out of Monel. The 30% bent staple rate went down to about 10%... 1 out of 10 I can live with, 1 out of 3 was driving me nuts, lots of colorful 4 letter words were uttered while using the Monel staples....
