Nautical Terms- When is it proper use?

I actually wonder where some of these nautical terms really originated from? Maybe I should research them to see. :noidea:

We used to refer to the US Navy as 175 years of tradition untouched by progress. The Brits have been doing it even longer

I found using nautical trims like learning a new language. Living were I do I had to pick up on them fast becouse that's the only way they talk about boating.
