After a long season beginning in February, we come to the finale less than a week before Thanksgiving. The Cup season has been filled with controversy,
It starting with Kurt Busch serving a 3 race suspension from dismissed domestic violence charges, then waiving Race To The Chase rules for Kyle Busch after missing 11 races because of a broken leg suffered during the opening XFINITY race at Daytona. Then we had Matt Kenseth leading at Kansas taken out by Joey Logano in Chase Race #5, Kenseth and Logano again at Martinsville when Kenseth ran Logano into the outside wall (some say intentional, some say Joey deserved it :wink: for his actions at Kansas). Lastly, the final Chase Race at Phoenix with Kurt Busch penalized for jumping the green flag race start and the race ending after 219 of the planned 312 laps because of heavy rain after a 7 hour late rain delayed start.
In the Cup Championship only 4 drivers are still in contention; Jeff Gordon is looking for his 5th title in his swan song race leading to retirement, Kevin Harvick is trying to remain the Cup Champion, Kyle Busch is running for his first title and Martin Truex Jr. also looking for his first. The Champion will be the highest placing driver of the four. No points for them, the first one across the finish is the 2015 Champ.
The XFINITY series is down to the wire with Buescher leading the points with Elliott, Ty Dillon and Regan within striking distance, This one will settled Saturday afternoon. The Truck series is also tight with Jones leading the standings, with Reddick and Crafton close. The Truck Champ will be crowned Saturday evening.
As usual - The schedule from MRN;
As much as I hate to say it, weather could be a factor again this weekend. From Weather Underground, the chance of rain is high through mid-day Monday.
The entry list has 45 names. Sorenson and McDowell need to qualify on speed and if qualifying is canceled, Blaney and McDowell will sit this one out.

News and Notes
- SI Kiss Of Death - Jeff Gordon is on the cover of the current issue of Sports Illustrated. Is this a bad omen for his 5th and final title attempt?
- Nascar is consistent. As Shrubby said after the the Kenseth/Logano incident, Nascar is consistently inconsistent. A couple of cases; first splitters. There have been two times this year when splitters failed inspection . Both of Penskes cars #2 and #22 at Michigan before the Chase in pre-race inspection and then at Texas, Gibbs #11, #18 and #19 failed pre-race inspection, in both of these cases the cars passed pre-qualifying inspection. No penalties or warnings were issued. Then at Texas, Gibbs cars #11, #18 and #20 failed pre-race inspection multiple times, Once again, these are cars that passed pre-qualifying inspection only to fail pre-race. Nascar would not confirm how many times it took to pass and issued no pentalies. It seems to me that both Penske and Gibbs are being treated to a different standard than the other teams. Most confusing since it seems these cars are being changed before the race.
- Kenseth has no remorse over wrecking Logano. He had to meet with Nascar before he could return this week.
- I hope you like the Chase. Nascar will probably be instituting a Cup Chase type format in the XFINITY and Truck series next year according to Jayski's. Both will have less cars and races in the Championship rounds.
- TV ratings - With the rain delay and switch to NBCSN, TV rating were low - Again.

At Phoenix, where it never rains, the winning Air Titan pilot was Jip. He took home his 4th :first: of the year. Congrats, Jip.
In the Overall Race, FlaCowboy continues to lead the standings. He dropped a few points to aspeck and his lead was trimmed to only 373 points. He hasn't clinched, but it's close.

Well - I think he did! But there is always that outside chance that aspeck can lasso the Cowboy. Dreams can come true, can't they?
