Time for the final race in the Contender round at Talladega. The Chase field will be whittled down to 8 drivers advancing into the Eliminator round. Logano is the only one with a guaranteed spot in the next round with two Contender wins. That leaves 11 others scrambling to either win at Dega or garner enough points to stay above the cut line. This should be an interesting race with so many left with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Trucks are also running this week, but why isn't the Camping World Truck Series race called the Camping World.com 250 and the Cup race called the Fred's 500? :noidea:

Here is the MRN schedule of events;

tdega.PNG

The entry list is at 45 to fill the 43 spots, so a couple of guys get to sit around the campfire with a Hershey's Bar, graham crackers and marshmallows making a mess while the other 43 go racin'.

Weather could be an issue on Sunday with some rain chances during the race window. I hope not!

News And Notes
  • Because of the uncontrolled mayhem during Green-White-Checkers finishes at restrictor races, only will only be one G-W-C attempt instead of the normal three. Smart move!
  • Still no final 2016 Cup schedule. It is taking a long time to set the schedule this year.
  • Nascar and the RTA are looking at setting up "charters", similar to franchises and reducing the field to 40 cars. 36 cars will be guaranteed starting spots leaving only low dollar teams fighting to qualify in the remaining 4 spots. I'm not sure I like this idea. Details here.
  • TV ratings for Kansas were a tick above the usual cable races, although Kansas was broadcast on NBC. Too much football competition?

iboats Fantasy Live

What an end to last week's race in Kansas, QC had a birthday win all but locked and on the G-W-C finish, 64osby swooped around him for his 8th :first: of the year. Congrats, 64 and sorry Charley, I mean QC. :blue:

With the win, 64 also tightened the overall standings. He is now sitting 160 points behind FlaCowboy.

Pick your winners and losers in FL and good luck to all.

No comment at this time to maintain plausible deniability. A PM may or may not have been sent.

All within the rules, of course ... dang, where is the 10,000 page latest edition of the rules book, and what did they change in the last 15 minutes?

Yup, they have a BBQ rib pattern built right in!

Close, MT. The tread pattern says WEBER in reverse so the word WEBER can plainly be seen when the camera zooms on the BBQ sauce puddle. You know Nascar will not miss a chance to have an "Official Sponsor" of anything.

It's right here, 'speck. http://rules.nascar.com/login

mmm. It seems to be safely secured in the Official Safe of Nascar, Diebold. It used to be Mosler, but Diebold offered more cash upfront.

On the Rule Change front, Michigan on Tuesday was the site of testing of the new 2016 Rules Package that no one can see unless they have the Keys To The Kingdom of Nascar.

They now have

Junior-Johnson-Moonshine-Collage.png

So midnight runs have been replaced by s'mores round the camp fire.

Gordon on the pole. Nice to see that with so few races left for him.

Thanks for the update, 64. I have been waiting since about 2 this afternoon for my DSL light to turn green. :blue:

Following Gordon are Kahne, Johnson, Kenseth, Earnhardt, Jr, Bayne, Harvick, Hamlin, Blaney, Logano, Keselowski, and Stewart. 4 of the top 5 are Hendrick cars.

Little Jebbie Burton and Annett did not make the race, so they will make S'mores before starting the Midnight Run down Thunder Road.

All four of the SHR cars, #4, #10, #14 and #41, had to make major changes to the radiator inlet ducting which were found to be outside the rules during pre-qualifyng inspection. Penalties coming next week. Josh Wise had to change his splitter after flunking, too.

Since this the final Contender race after which we lose 4 drivers, here is Jayski's clinch scenario, only Logano is safe unless Kenseth has a shot at him. Even so Joey is locked into the Eliminator round;

#11-Denny Hamlin needs to finish 14th with no laps led, or 15th with at least one lap led, or 16th and lead the most laps.
#41-Kurt Busch needs to finish 8th with no laps led, or 9th with at least one lap led, or 10th and lead the most laps.
#19-Carl Edwards needs to finish 7th with no laps led, or 8th with at least one lap led, or 9th and lead the most laps.
#4-Kevin Harvick needs to finish 3rd with no laps led, or 4th with a lap led.
#24-Jeff Gordon and #2-Brad Keselowski need to finish 2nd with no laps led, or 3rd with at least one lap led, or 4th and lead the most laps.
#78-Martin Truex Jr. needs to finish 2nd with no laps led or 3rd with the most laps led.
#18-Kyle Busch, #31-Ryan Newman, #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. and #20-Matt Kenseth only control their own destinies with a victory.

Also Hurricane Patricia may cause some trouble at Talladega tomorrow. The US Grand Prix crews in Austin, TX are also keeping eyes on the radar and sky.

With a long drawn out negotiation we secured a one day endorsement with Dawn Detergent.

They have developed a new pre-treatment product that we will be testing on our tires. This should negate the ill effects of rib grease being slung on the track and hopefully keep our team(s) running straight and true. ;)

Still working on a last minute deal, name withheld at this time. If obtained it will keep us safe during any "Big One" occurrences.:)

Anything on combating the Rib Bone problem, 64?

On the Dawn front, if it does begin to rain, will the track foam up?

We have been working with Goodyear, they are developing a bone resistant tire but so far testing has been inconclusive.:blue: Estimates are they will have it ready for the 2018 season.

The foaming problem only happens with Grand Prix racing, they run in the rain.;)

The deal was inked with RD 140 Systems for using the anti collision system during the race. The technology is untested in racing. We may find that the system slows down the car too much so a master switch has been installed.

That's good. Don't want to see any of the iFL competitors foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog for others having an unfair advantage. That and that they didn't think of it. LOL
