I think the DA did Smoke a favor by letting the Grand Jury do the work and releasing the info about the levels of Mary Jane in Ward, Jr.'s system. The Grand Jury ruling will be a big help to Smoke in any Civil case the family wants to mount. However, with the info that is public knowledge now, the settlement to avoid a long drawn out trial will be much smaller, IMHO.

Funny. But seriously, everything I have been able to read makes me think that the smoke had very little to do with the Grand Jury's verdict. It sounds like witness testimony and minute breakdowns of the tapes (includng, and maybe especially, The Tape Never Seen) were what convinced them there was no crime. I could be wrong.
