We have the second and final road race of the year coming up at Watkins Glen. Cup and X-Men are running and for the second week in a row, Cup qualifying is same day, just like most X-Races.

Cup only has 36 entries, so the field will be 4 short. Weather may hinder on-track action on Friday, but on Saturday and Sunday it looks like it will cooperate.

News and Notes
  • Lets start with The Twerp. He won on Sunday, but at a Super Late Model race in Wisconsin, he got DQ'ed for being underweight and was credited with a last place finish. Why can't Nascar do the same? Joey Logano had an encumbered win earlier this year and didn't get a free pass into the playoffs, but he still got the winners check and 1st place driver points when he should have been DQ'ed and given a last place finish.
  • The Twerp II - Nascar is making Bushwhacker rules tighter, details below, for Cup drivers in the lower tier series. The Whining Twerp says if Cup drivers are eventually kept out of Trucks that he will shutter his Truck teams. :violin:
  • New Buschwhacker rules - Next year any Cup driver earning points will be restricted to 7, down from 10, X-Races and be excluded from the regular season finale which solidifies the playoff drivers and the playoffs. For Trucks the number of Whacker racers is cut to 5 from seven and the same playoff rules apply. If they drop the 7 and 5 race limits to zero, they have it figured out, whether The Twerp races in his own truck or not. How about this stat - Of the 19 X-Races this year only 4 have been won by a X-Reg driver. That's a lot of incentive to drive X-Cars, isn't it?
  • Kurt Busch may not have a SHR ride next year when his option expired at Midnight last night - 8/1, SHR tweeted "We don't comment on contract status, but we expect @KurtBusch back in our @MonsterEnergy / @Haas_Automation Ford in '18. Just sayin'." I'm
  • Pocono is willing to run of their two races on the infield road course as long as they can keep two races. Charlotte and now Pocono willing to use the infield road course can only make for better racing, in my opinion.
  • Most Cuppers like the 2 day schedule with practice the day before the race, with qualifying and the race on the same day. The Glen will be doing this as Pocono did last week.
  • Pocono penalties - Erik Jones team was caught with bad truck trailing arm angles/attachments. It cost him and the owner 25 points each and the crew chief was fined $25k and 2 races. The Twerp, Stenhouse and Bayne had loose lugnuts and the CC's got a $10K fine.
  • Trucks may be running spec motors supplied by Ilmor next year. So no more Ford, Chevy or Toyota motors in Ford, Chevy or Toyota cloned bodies. Kinda ends the race on Sunday, buy on Monday big time.
  • Long live the Overtime Line, the Overtime Line is dead. Finally the brains behind Nascar, if there are any, made the overtime rule obsolete by making the start/finish line the line to cross before a yellow to end the race. If a yellow is dropped before the leader cross the S/F line, multiple restarts are run until the leader can cross the line caution free. If the yellow come out after the white flag, the field is frozen and the race finishes under caution. Watkins Glen is the first race to use the new overtime rule and going forward, all races.
  • TV ratings - 2.01 for Pocono. Last year was rain delayed, so not really rated and 2015/4 was 2.6 and 2.8.

We have our 1st 3 time winner of the year - justkiddin 5. He had 25 points over the 2nd place finisher, sam60. Congrats justkiddin 5. slurpee11.png

TB2448 is still leading the overall standings.

Don't forget to work on your roster and keep in mind that qualifying is only a couple of hours before the race at 3PM. Good luck.

X-Qualifying results. Top 6 are BushWhackers and 7 of the top 10 as well. Race starts about 2PM.

Cuppers qualify tomorrow before the race.

More cuppers in the race, than there are turns in the track! That said, there won't be any cuppers in the next few races for the Xmen.

I see wipers on the X-Cars. Wonder if the Cup cars have them?

1st yellow for Gallagher cutting a tire and spinning. The Twerp is leading looking for his 89th X-Win. I hope he's still looking after lap 82!

We all knew a cup guy was going to win this one, the Xmen teams just don't have the money or equipment.

Guess who has pole at The Glen?

The Twerp followed by Larson, Truex, Elliott, Suarez, Jones, Allmendinger, Keso, McMurray, Johnson, Hamlin and Bowyer. Hamlin and Bowyer didn't even make a 2nd round run. Joey is starting in 13th.
