I picked this up, it is 21' long, sail number 568, with a C22 at top of sail. Also, what recomended hp motor for a boat this size, thanks.

Re: Mystery sailboat

I'm not a sail boat guy, but I think it will remain a mystery if you don't put up some pics. Any idea on the manufacturer? But I'll make a guess - 9.9 hp. Or since it's a 21 footer , maybe 225 hp on a bracket.

And Welcome aboard, Busch it.

Re: Mystery sailboat

Thanks Ga Boater, I have checked the transom and inside cabin, just can't find anything. I have a 35 HP, but I'm afraid my son will want to try water skiing behind it!

Re: Mystery sailboat

Yes, Catalina 22.
We had one "Light & Variable" was what we named it and they are wonderful little sailers. My guess is 1975 give or take a few years.
Like flashback said, between 5 and 10HP.
Make sure you get a LONGSHAFT and even with that you may need one of those brackets to lower and raise it.
When we got ours it had a little 4 HP air cooled Seahorse kicker on it and it was fine and lightweight.
9.9 's are common also but heavier. Bigger than that is completely wasted. Enjoy

Re: Mystery sailboat

a friend of mine has a C22 with an electric trolling motor running off of the battery banks. he uses both a wind generator and a solar panel to keep the batteries charged. doesnt need much power to move the boat.

Re: Mystery sailboat

Thanks everyone, the 25 is now for sale. I figured it was from the mid 70's. I'm picking up one of those Cruise n Carry's, probably too small but will use it on a raft. I'm also checking on solo mast raising systems, I see this one on YouTube, the guy has a pulley system hooked up to traveler car and pole that with a simple pull of the rope, the car travels down the mqst and raises the mast at the same time, video called: Mast raising oh so easy, check it out and tell me how it's done, thanks again, and I WILL enjoy the sailboat next year!.

Re: Mystery sailboat

Busch,

Join the Catalina 22 National Sailing Assoc.,you will get lots of info and help there, especially if there is a Fleet in your immediate area. I bought a Cat 22 new in 1973 and owned it 'till 1979 when I moved up to a Cat 25. I always missed the C-22 though. Be SURE and have a knowledgeable C-22 sailer show you how to correctly tune the mast/rigging set-up. If your boat is pre'77 or '78 (can't remember exactly) it has the "old" mast section, of which many failed if not tuned right. The "new" mast was much more reliable, it came out in the late '70's. If you have the old mast and it still has the cast aluminum spreader sockets, change them to the welded stainless steel replacements. Also replace the keel retraction cable and its winch if that has not been done recently. Catalina parts are available from Catalina Direct in Sac., CA. I think they are still in business. The Cat factory also can supply parts.
