I have this motor that seems to be a mystery. I have a title that says it's a 1983 115 Evinrude, but people from here email me and say it's much older. I can't find the serial number on the motor so I don't know for sure what I have. The story I got when I bought it was that it came from a boat motor repair shop and was sold because the original Owner didn't come back for it to pay it's bill. It came from an auction. Any way if you're in the know about motors what to look for??..

Underneath the cowl on top of the engine there should be a silver plug abouth the size of a quarter that will have the model # and serial # on it; post those numbers here and someone will be able to tell you what you have. Also a picture would be helpful.

To me, it looks like an early 70's Hydroelectric shift engine. I don't see a shifter cable, or shifter linkage in the picture that shows the throttle linkage. Also, it looks like you have a distributor under the flywheel and only one ignition coil, which also identifies it as early 70's.
Hydroelectric shift was only made from 1969 to 1972? I'm pretty sure it's not a 1969 because it has the four little rubber plugs on the air box that let you adjust the idle jets without removing the air box.
I have a 1969 85hp Johnson on my boat, so I'm familiar with this vintage of v4.

model identification 2.jpgSome good eyes on this forum. That power pack is from a 1972 model. As mentioned, that engine should have a casting plug on the top of the engine which will have the serial/model information for the block. See attached pic for this 1975 engine.

The module/pack is worth more than motor.... my opinion.

Take the offer. There are to many expensive and hard to get things on that mtr. Unless you want to part it out.
