I had to buy everything from clothes to shoes to school supplies on my own when I turned 16. At that time I paid $300.00 for a Ford Granada and left home. While my family made above average income, my father had been brought up with the "you get what you work for" attitude, and didn't show me any sympathy for good grades, hard work, good attitude, or anything for that matter. I'm only 28, but I have learned a lot and worked very hard for what I have in the last 12 years.
Do I agree with how I was raised... NOPE, and I will not raise my children in this manner. However I will not just buy everthing for them either. I will be more than happy to drop 9,000 on a car for him... so long as he also comes up with 9,000. I'll match whatever he can come up with.
