I had to drag it out of the water without trimming it up. What affect will this have on driving the boat. In your opinion Is it it bad enough to have to get it replaced. The wire came off the starter fuse at the starter.

Part of the job of a skeg is protecting the propeller
If it is shorter than the prop, your prop can get damaged when hitting a rock.
There are skeg repair units that slide over the damaged skeg and that way you can fix it. Or you can have an extension piece welded on

If it bothers you, weld 2" back on and go boating

If it doesn't bother you, just go boating

this. it dies protect the prop but you wont notice it. In the future you can always pop the trim rams off the back of the drive and hold it up with a rope in case of failure

I hit a rock and knocked 3/4 of my skeg off years ago. I ran that motor for years after that just the way it was. No problem, no issue.

After I cleared the boat ramp, I drove the pin to the lift cylinders out and lifted it with a rope to get home. I wasn't going to hold up the ramp and work it in the water at the ramp. The battery lug + on the starter fuse broke, easy fix after I found it at home. I drilled 2 REAL copper pennies to use as copper washers to sandwich the lug at the starter fuse.

Not a bad move. Ive seen drilled nickels used instead of SS washers in a pinch
