It is definetely a 1965 900 as your number falls between 1755444 and 1869775. It is not a '64 850!

Sweet! Thanks alot Gerry!!! I will order that ASAP, I hope it gets here soon, I suspect the problem with my motor is in the lower unit but I'm not going to even think about taking it apart without the service manual so thank you thank you thank you!
get inside the boat and check the plywood inside the transom for rot. it's 1 and a half inch plywood fiberglassed in. that's what is holding the motor not fiberglass. transom fixed or transom fixed correct ?. now try and free the motor turn the prop and see what's going on. the links exist try again . wet sand with 2500 grit sandpaper then a buffing wheel with finishing compound on a wool polishing pad and she will look new follow up with wax. the motor is a beast good luck
Okay, the wood doesn't look like it has any rot, it seems strong. It also seems solid when I try to shake the motor. I think what happened is that the fiberglass cracked and a liberal amount of fiberglass was put on to fix it. I think it's ok but it doesn't look very good. I'm considering repainting the entire boat, it looks pretty faded and ugly, hmmmmm. Anyway, thanks for the help! I'm such a rookie.

The function of the trim is consistant with a bad trim limit switch, which is very common. If it were me I would just run it that way. Use both buttons to trim and tilt the motor. Be happy the PTT system works...
Thanks, yes, I am very happy that the PTT system works! They hydraulic motor isn't struggling or anything. I guess I will just use both buttons to raise it for now. Do you know what the middle button normally used for? It seemed strange that they have 3 buttons but I'm a total rookie!
