Re: My new to me starcraft 22 ft islander questions
Can't give you real world expierence here but I'm sure someone will chime in soon. My understanding is that the holes you are seeing are where factory would have put foam in. Floor is attached, holes are bored, foam goes in and fills voids between hull and floor. Mine was really inconsistent and not a whole lot of it. The foam had actually deformed the stringers. If you know it is soaked you are gonna have to get it out. Not only is it not gonna have the flotation that is needed but it is gonna make your boat really heavy. Removal is a pain most times. But if you bury your head and keep going you will get through it. Some guys replace with pour in foam others go with blue or pink board found at homecenters, some guys go with pool noodles. Read through some resto threads and you will find all kinds of techniques and tips. I found square blade shovel used carefully made my foam come out the best. I got that from PMCs resto thread on his Sea Nymph GLS 17. Good luck. When I said post some more pictures of boat I didn't just mean your foam issue. We all like to see what everybody is working on. Show it off.
