Last week I posted regarding advice as a first time boat buyer. I received good advice which helped me with my purchase. The boat in question was a 19' Monterey with a 4.3 inboard. After checking this boat out, I decided to pass. During the course of last week, I stumbled upon what is now my first boat on Craigslist.

One owner - 1997 Glastron outfited with a Johnson 90 SPL outboard. I gave her a bath and polishing today and she shines like a jewel. When I purchased the boat, they had everything setup so that it could be started and run. Afterwards they re-winterized, I handed over my cash, and headed home with my new baby. I think I got a great buy @ 5K. Everything about this boat is about like new.

Here she is...

Congratulations, PW. It's a great looking boat. No doubt you're chomping at the bit to get it out. Since it's the off season, now's a great time to consider acquiring all of the equipment that you'll need, and particularly the safety equipment. Whether you're new to boating or not, now is also a good time to go looking for some general boating courses. There are some on line as well as many offered by the US Power Squadron. Have fun and be careful.

Wow..man I think you scored..big time! Nice and clean and you will feel right at ease working on her.

Get a manual for the motor. Factory Johnson preferred, but others will work. They just don't seem to be as detailed because they cover more models.

Keep up with the fuel/water separator, as it is your savior to keeping our ethanol gas under control. You can take their word for maintenance, or just redo some basic things. Now could be a good time to learn how to change an impeller, lower unit oil, plugs and use a little Boeshield T9 or corrosion x and work over the outside of the motor. Looks like a fresh water rig, so that will help..good luck!..:)

Great looking boat, great sounding price. The nice thing about an OB is you can take her out the first time the ice melts and not worry about a the re-winterization. I bought mine in the winter and it would have killed me to have to wait until spring.

Wow! Has that baby been in shrink-wrap for the past decade?

One thing that puzzles me is the placement of the fishfinder. From the picture, it looks like it blocks the other instruments.
