My Mercruiser Water Pump weeps for 90 seconds

When I start my Mercruiser 190 4cyll. anti-freeze comes from the weep hole in the water pump for about 90 seconds and then stops. My auto mechanic friend says that some cars do this even if the water pump is good. Runs cool and gives me no trouble other than this. What do you think?

No,they shouldn't leak. That hole is there to let you know the bushing is shot in the water pump before it totally fails. A little sweating is ok,but it should definately not dribble.<br />The reason it quits, is probably because the thermostat is opening up,and releiving the back pressure.<br />But the pump should be leak-less in spite of that.
