my 1976 3cyl. 65 horse has no power to the coil, i think its the cdi unit but ive also heard that it could be my controler im very new to boats but am very mechanically inclined but im kinda lost here usually the rule of thumb is no spark means no power to the coil but on a boat engine what supplies that power the cdi or the controller please help.

Hotrod, Merc CDI units pulse the coil to induce spark. You will not see steady voltage, like on an auto ign from the 60s. The CDIElectronics web page will have a troubleshooting test for your ign.
