Re: My husbands boat is stranded on mississippi river in st louis mo

Thanks ez for stepping in. It's too bad when someone posts for some advice and they get blasted instead by someone.

I hope the recovery goes good. Please keep us informed.

Once again, glad no one got hurt.

first, it's clear that "Brian's wife" is a seagull, having swooped by here once, dropped something, and left, so all the good advice is in vain.

second, looking at the pictures on the new link, it's hard to imagine that the trip didn't turn out trgically. Those guys had no idea what they were doing or about boating--the kind who risk their own lives, and worse, those of the people who have to rescue them. Call me unkind; I call their acts inexcusable.

Third: of course the boat is still there--who's going to risk a boat on the rocks to pull off another boat? 4 guys could lift it and get it to the downstream side of the bar. I guess he no longer has 4 friends.

Finally, this option from the news story cracked me up: "They also say the owner could wait until the Mississippi River rises high enough to free the boat and retrieve it downstream" Think about it.

Until you need a boaters license to own or use a boat things like this will happen. I'm sure these guys will never make the mistakes they made that day ever again. It could have been much worse, or they could have been offshore in the sea. Remember nobody was born to be a great waterman. It was learned from others who knew because they learned from others or experience /mistakes that were not deadly! Hindsite is 20/20, I'm sure everyone on this forum made their own mistakes learning about boats and the waters we ply w them. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have. To bash them is pointless IMO. Their lack of knowledge is a given.

Yeah right... just look at how many dumb*****es are out driving the roads. A license is just another way to get some of your money (tax). You cannot fix "stupid"!

The original poster hasn't come back and this thread has been a nightmare from the beginning. Closed.
