guys, i just got a new one a 16' flats skiff ..well not so new, i dont even know who made it its on a home made title (1983) i took it out today for the first time and in 1' sea/chop the floor is moving a good bit (like o s**t its gona split in half ) with every wave i hit even the console moves. the floor is and feels very solid and so is the hull . its a slight v in the front than its flat all the way back, except for the purtruding U-channel in the center . i did some surgery and found the floor is made of 1/6" of woven and exoxy ,under that is 1/4" of baulsa wood then the hull itself . what would be the best corse of action to fix that .

Your description and title don't sound promising... What does the hull look like underneath the boat? Do you have access to the hull from the deck or is the balsa blocking the hull glass from the inside.
Hope its not what it sound like.

the underside looks great ,no cracks ,no holes . the only access i have to the top of the hull is where i used a small grinder to remove a 4x4" section out of the floor ,the baulsa wood is glued to the top of the hull

hey bad.......

WELCOME TO I BOATS

that looks like a fun boat.....

your going to want to reinforce the hull

but....is the balsa wet?.....you can either grind off the balsa...or dry it and glass over it.....i would get rid of it...if you can....

you might want to grind off a spot and see how the hull is constructed....weither they made a balsa core or not......

there is lots of threads on hull reinforcement right now....just start reading....:)

cheers

I noticed that you said the deck and hull felt solid, but that the deck was moving quite a bit... is it possible that the deck is not secured to the hull and that is what is causing the problem?

Sounds like the hull is flexing due to the lack of stringers.

I'm with windykid or Sgtmajor. I think it's something simple or hard. Probably
the floor isn't fastened down though.
