What they all say and welcome to the Starmada. Great boat, you will like it a lot.
Thanks a bunch Glen!

Welcome aboard!
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Nice rig! I'd def go all in and replace that transom, any flex is flex and flex isnt good.
Can you post more pics? lol..Excellent job and detailed pics!
Welcome to the insanity of all things Starcraft
I haven't even gotten warmed-up posting pictures

Great deal!
haha you, me, and sigsaur are all in the same boat at the same time!

The offshore I bought last week is basically the same thing.
ob 70hp evinrude also!

Do you or anyone know what that hatch in the floor is for, maybe just for hull inspection?
Im deciding if or where to install in-floor storage, such as a ski locker.

thanks! you're haulin' some serious tail on your project! By the time i'm splashing on hull primer, you'll be splashing that 70 in some open-water!

The PO added those hatches and they have removable storage boxes. I'm considering scrapping that idea and going with a single/larger hatch for rod storage; enough opening to feed the rods into PVC tubes. Its valuable volume under-deck for adding floatation.

Well I am just a little different as I got a 115 with power tilt and trim with mine. I figure she should push the boat to around 36-37 mph

Hmmm I may do a little better than I had anticipated than, outside of this the largest runabout I have had was a 15 footer with a 65 hp and she would plane fine but topped out at 32mph with 1 person and 6 gallons on board. I figured adding 2 feet would make this one kind of more of a pig, but I did go from a glasser to a tinny so I am not sure of the weight difference.

Congrats, that looks like it has been well cared for by the nice couple:)

I have a 70hp for my 16' SS and it should plane out nicely on your 18.

I'd take the rig out this season and then do a resto next fall:D

Depends on how the transom is holding up as mentioned ^^.

Good luck to ya!

Power TnT is key.

+1 --- I've seen 39 on a 15'8 glasser consistently....with TnT.

However, getting the glasser up on plane with anything more than 4 and someone better be sitting on the bow!

My tinny with 7 and 2 dogs planes with 3/4 throttle with ease....

Ahh decision, decisions! I have a hunch that the engine's gearcase will be keeping the rig in dry-dock this spring. The flex is subtle...pushing on the motor cowling, it moves ~ 1mm relative to the splashwell. ...and a sidelined engine is as good excuse as any to start the project!

 Surprisingly uneventful drive back to NY...I was expecting everything from a charging black bear to a satellite falling on the hood of my truck! Truck stopped when I needed it to and the trailer tires didn't melt off of the hubs

...and the Mrs. loves the SS btw! ...however she hurt my feelings a bit when she asked when I'm selling the BlueFin :faint2:

Did you get an 'til the end of the season exemption? Or at least until the full resto on the SS is underway........

Get Ez to draft a motion on your behalf......

The mob will start a letter writing campaign if it'd help.... Likely won't help but ya never know.......

Glad you made it back tires & hubs intact :D

One would think that there would be some sort of grace period...however the legalities here are a slippery slope!

no worries guys, I have an angle or 2 on how to retain possession of the BlueFin

The lower-unit dropped this afternoon; the 1st time in 20 years! torque extensions, penetrating oil, heat and some bludgeoning required.

Definitely water intrusion (i'll pressure/vacuum test tonight when the remaining mustard drains out)

...The impeller is intact!!! I'm thrilled that I don't have to go digging around in the powerhead for pieces of rubber!

Time-0:

1-minute; rotating the driveshaft (steady decline):

2-minute; rotating the propshaft (still steady pressure loss)

as soon as I jiggled the shift rod...kaboom!

More TMI mud!

I'm hoping that I can reseal this shift housing without doing a full tear-down...unfortunately the service manual doesn't have a "How Can I Cut Corners?" section

With all the Susquehanna mud you found, it might be a good idea to do a complete re-seal on the lower. Could be time and money saved in the long run.

I hear-ya GaB. After sleeping on it, I decided to face-my-fears of this fangled hydraulic-assisted shift and break this puppy down for a re-seal. I'm also curious if the bearings are rusted/pitted.

I was lucky enough to find a shim gauge on fleabay, so if I have to pull the driveshaft I'll be prepared.
