Just wanted to post picture of boat I purchased late last fall. Once the weather starts to cooperate I will be replacing the transom, floor and also repairing the knee brace. I cant wait to get started and look forward to this forum as a resource for my upcoming project.

I will post a few more pics tomorrow as I just love my new to me boat!

Welcome to the tin-sanity here at the iboats dry dock, tin division.

Float on over to the Starcraft forum & check thru some of the other SC resto threads there too:

I have spent several hours on craigslist looking at boats and it took me a long time to find this one....very picky. I can see how if you had money it could become addicting. I actually am going to use your idea for fixing the knee brace. you did a very good job!

Well howdy, F-T-B. Your hull is pretty good looking. Plenty of ideas here to get her fixed up. What's on the back for power?

Watch out because you will have to request a name change when you pick no. 2. :D

Welcome to the Starmada and iboats!

Always nice to have a new convert from being just a normal guy to a tin obsessed boat head.

Just be sure you make good on the photos real quick like, otherwise the angry mob will descend on your thread with torches and pitchforks.

:welcome: That's a nice looking Holiday. There are plenty here who will help and encourage you on your upcoming resto. I think the Starmada is made up of some of the best boat gurus around. They'll take great care of you. By the way as it's already been mentioned MBS is very contagious here on the Tin side. I think a Holiday like yours is what I'm looking for now.

Re: My First Boat Purchase 1977 Holiday 18

thx for all the kind words. To answer your question GA it has a 90hp evinrude on the back of her. I took if for a test ride before I purchased it from the PO and it ran good....very fast boat. I had a friend winterize it for me and he plans on taking it off for me early this spring so I can get started on new floor, transom and knee brace repair. I will start to put together a list of material/materials very soon and am sure questions will follow.

PS -- nice Jet Star for $795 on craigslist if someone is looking............VERY VERY nice boat for price.

just a few more. you can see the knee brace needs to be repaired. Again I liked the job you did on your boat Bluefin.

Really nice boat f-t-b!

Thank you for the compliment!

If you don't plan on removing the knee-brace, either a bunch of blind-rivets or you can try Astor's method of sinking a few solid rivets in the upper-section.

It's too bad you have to tear up the floor. The interior looks good. Looking at the motor mount bolts and knee brace, the transom wood needs to go. When the knee brace cracks due to a soft transom, often the splashwell develops cracks too because a lot of the force get misdirected through the SW, which really is a major structural part of the boat. Do you have any SW cracks? Hope not.
