This really isn't doesn't fall into the forum category but this is the only forum I visit since I have an old 470 Mercruiser so I feel a home here and I figure you guys might get a kick out of this.

A little background-
The boat is a 1962 Elgin 11 foot aluminum boat with a Honda CBR929 sportbike engine fitted. I am a motorcycle guy and had an extra engine lying around and always wanted to see if I could put it a boat. This was my first ever fabrication project and I like to think it came out pretty decent.
Looking back I would have liked to lighten things up a bit and use more aluminum bits. The boat has more than enough power and actually drives fairly well. Being such a small boat it doesn't handle the waves too well- I should have put it in a bigger boat :)

The project took me quite a bit of hours but I learned a lot from it.
It gets a fair amount of attention from guys at the boat ramp.

WOW you used a 929 motor!! I worked at a bike shop and that is a great motor. Nice job.

How does it perform? Speed ;) ??? What no co-pilot seat!

Now have you seen the jet ski conversions in an aluminum boat? They fly too!

I'm curious if you end up using more than one gear...

Oh...and: That's AWESOME!

Me too on the shifting, what effect does it have.

Re: My first boat build

I dont shift while im moving, I just pick the gear I want then just let the clutch out and throttle up.

The pictures are from last year. I since have put a gaurd around the shaft and mounted a seat right over the thrust plate.

I also have a different coupler that goes from the motor to the shaft. The first one got worn very quickly.

And yes, the 929 motor is a great one. I have over 130,000 on my streetbike now and I ride it every day to work. Its a trooper.
