Ok to start out, I got this boat from a buddy of mine. He was going to restore it but found another boat for dirt cheap that was ready to go. It's in bad shape. All the seats, capet, and engine cover were rotted. The floor was pretty soft too. The engine isnt running right now but im going to restore the boat first while its still nice weather and mess with the engine this winter. So far I have removed all the leaves from the bilge, popped the upper deck off, cut the floor out and removed a good bit of the water logged foam from the hull. I have found alot of insite from other boat restorers on this site and I have a pretty good idea of what materials I will be using. Im thinking 2ea 1/2" sandwitched pieces of plywood for the stringers and the same for the bulkheads. EPS sheets glued and cut to fit for flotation and 1/2" ply for the deck. I will glass over all the wood thoroughly and use weave in the corners covered by mat over the rest. The gelcoat is only oxidated on the upper deck wwere it was exposed to the sun. I dont want to paint or re-gellcoat the boat right now. Would sanding and polishing bring back a mild sheen? Doesnt have to be pretty. This is my first boat and my first big project. I will try to keep this updated as much as I can in the coming months.

Congratulations..... you are working with a blank slate and can design the interior to fit your wants and needs.

Look at the completed boat project sections here on iboats and look at this http://recaffeinated.net/skankybeast/page1.html This is the Shankybeast that was restored by JasonJ here on iboats.... a fine example of a tri-hull.

Now Jason used fiberglass resin and many of us here are partial to epoxy (I am) resin which is even stronger.

Your plan sounds good and you will get some well qualified advice here.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info. I have read about the skankybeast. I like what Jason did with the interior. He switched it up like three times. I still think Im going with poly resin. I mean the boat was built with poly and thats just about the only thing not rotten on it.
