my 1985 evinrude 70HP is stuck in forward

my 1985 evinrude 70HP is stuck in forward. It will still crank up with the controls put in neutral, but won't come out of gear

Is the shift rod moving up and down on the motor ?-----Drain gear oil.-----If that is good the lower unit needs to come apart.

I can see where the shift cable is moving on the side of the block but haven't really checked on the rod. I'll do that in the morning. I'm calling it a night

Maybe the shift pin fell out at the top of the rod.

What does the shift pin look like

is this after the gearbox was removed or did it just start not selecting ? .

It did this while I was running

Perhaps shifter fork in lower unit broke ?-----Might as well take lower unit off.-----Likely due for impeller and oil seal kit anyway.
