This thread has been quiet for a while but it showed up as a top hit after searching for "mussels lake sebago" (that's big Sebago) and it seems a lot of people who posted are familiar with this topic.
I post because I am curious to know if any of the members here have noticed changes in the population of mussels in the lake or in the quality of the water. As a regular visitor to the lake for 30+ years I've seen some changes including a drop in the number of mussels (or to be honest I haven't seen any in a while - could be I am looking in the wrong places). I decided to ask around to see if anyone has had similar experiences and has info or explanations if my observation is in fact more general.
Not a limnologist by the way but interested in the subject.
