I think thats great and I'm not one bit surprised she got hooked on fishing the mighty warrior at such a young age. She's a credit to her gender. I never fished for Muskie, but would love have a shot at it sometime. :) Y'all make it sound like the utmost fishing experience and the research and knowledge of becoming good at it a real challenge.

My hats off to anyone who enjoys the sport of muskie fishing.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it is legal so long as the fish you are using for bait was caught in the same body of water, by legal means, and is of legal size. There are certain species, such as carp, that are specifically forbidden for use as bait. I guess they don't want you using big goldfish!!

NYS DEC says:

Collecting Baitfish:
Any person who has a fishing license or is entitled to fish without a license may collect baitfish for personal use (sale prohibited) as specified in the following table. Fish taken may be used only for bait in hook-and-line fishing. These are the only circumstances where the use of seines, traps, cast nets, and gill nets are permitted unless a commercial license has been obtained. Possession of endangered or threatened fish species is prohibited.

Minnows, killifish, mudminnows, darters, sticklebacks, stonecats, smelt, alewives, suckers, and blueback herring are the only fish that may be taken.*

MY bad :(

Re: Musky Education...

My next question BubbaKat is how are we going to fit all that arsenal in your boat? Are you sure you don't want me to bring my boat :) Between yours and my stash it looks like we got over seventy lures to heave at em.. Now I see why she took your plastic..

If nothing else we we will look impressive as we swing down the river..Between all the tackle, poles,my 48"Frabil net and cradle we are going to need a bigger boat. Add MellowYellow into the picture in May,well you can imagine.

Thinkn about building a pull along raft for MellowYellow to save space.. :D

No way bubba that will fit in your boat.
Where would you strap it down?

I can just see it now.
Bubba and gonfishn both swarping and hook that thing and sling it out into the river.

Then watching bubba cry as he watches all his lures go down to the deep 6 and thennnnnnnnnnn, explaining to the wife that he has to have more.

Yea that will happen again. :D

Re: Musky Education...

Well fellas I hate to admit it but those lures aren't mine. I stole that picture off another site to see what kind of reaction I would get and sure enough it hit. :D If I had enough butt to buy that many lures and still live around my wife then I would be one bad boy :p Any who mellow I was thinking about building me an alter like that  Jeff when you get here we will still have quit a bit of an arsenal to throw at them.
Will send you the shortest route to me and predicted weather. I have the camera so don't worry about that. I am ready to go dude. :D

Re: Musky Education...

Not to rub it in as most people have done this winter but its gator time today..Going to be cloudy and in the fifties My plan today is to slow troll in 4 to 7 foot of water with lure about a third of the way down.

Will fish the horse shoe coves that drop to deeper water and will be lookn for weed beds that are just starting to sprout a little growth. No big stuff today. Well maybe my 16" witch just to see how she works. Going to give JBs lure a shot and do some shallow running lures also..
