I am trying to assemble a modest collection of lures for my mis-adventures this summer, WOW the wife ain't gonna appriciate this. These lures sure add up in a hurry money wise. Oh well grit my teeth and add one or two at a time until we get there. Not trying for a complete set at this time just a few of some of the more widley used lures in the more prevelant patterns colors etc.

Heres my question: you have been invited fishing but have been told that you are only allowed to bring three lures with you, what three do you grab out of your box, and why. I know water temp, time of year, water clarity etc all play a role but for simplicity sake lets forgo these considerations and just take our three standbys.

P.S. I am just trying to get a snapshot of what you usually tie on vs what the advertisers would have you believe is the "one and only lure to use".

A big spinner bucktail, I'm partial to BlueFox Vibrax, cause they are cheaper.

A big Rapala HuskyJerk that suspends and rattles.

And a top water jerk bait like a Zara Spook or a Suick.

Hmmmm, I see a trend here.

Re: Musky Education...

I take it John that you are going after spring muskies..You have seen my collection..Take one top water(Analator) that you can zip over the soon to be weed lines(one that has alot of noisy action) Second would be a shallow runner such as a swim whiz or a black and red bucktail..Third would be a deeper type bottom lure such as a tiger Tube or a Hawg Dawg..

I take it your not talking about our hunt together in June..I am bringing enough arsenal with me that I may need the front of your pontoon all to my selve :) ...btw gota new finder and have the old sitting in a box ready to ship to you if you want or need...Found out after I put a fuse in it she worked(imagine that). But hey I needed a new one anyway. Shoot me an email if ya want..Its a x60 lorance..

Re: Musky Education...

JB...Your next question is: Whats your dates this year, you are invited and I won't even limit ya to three lures. Also is the DB3 & DB5 (size)due to castability, Multispecies, Or is this your preferred size for Muskys? Seems smallish but who knows maybe bigger isn't better.

Roscoe:I see it too.

GF, Gearing up in general so I can chase them on my own when I do not have a "Well Equiped" angler with me. As for the front portion of the toon...You can choose your seat ANYTIME. Let me think on the other?

M1, counting on it.

MY, That is the class of lure that could induce dissaproving looks from the wife...If ya know what I mean. I better only get them 1 at a time.

This is helping me put a nice picture together of what I would like my arsenal to look like as I build it. Hopefully I can have a decent selection by time season opens round here. Thanks Guys ;)

Hmmm. Looks like a deal might be had on those Musky Killers. Guess it depends on the bidding.

Okay, Neumanns, you bid or I bid, but not both of us. Which shall it be?

Re: Musky Education...

This past winter I have picked up alot of knowledge by readn and drinking coffee with guys that have been doing muskies for twenty year or more.

Here is someting to think about that I picked up from an older gator hunter

Look at a picure of a musky. Notice how the eyes are positoned See how they are positioned more towards the top. There is a reason for this.

A musky is an ambusher. Their eyes are always looking up. Anything below them gets less attention. He says that a musky will come up ten feet to make a hit but but won't go down an inch(His Thoughts). Makes sense, alot of times at end of a cast the lure is at its highest point before pulling out. Now think about a figure of eight). She may not have caught up with it before she had a chance to nail it. Think of a throw back. He says she hasn't left area but will move a ways off and wait. Just thought I would pass this info on. Fishn for the gator is easy but to catch one you need to know what makes them tick and learning the whys of which I am doing now.

Re: Musky Education...

Mushies Inc, is having a meeting tommarrow evening. I am gonna try and get there, who knows it may be interesting. Anyone ever been to there meetings?

"Hi My name is John, I have been interested in musky for a while know. This was not a problem until I found a tackle distributer in my home, Ebay. I am afraid I may spend the morgatge payment on lures..... Hi john, go ahead and spend the mortgage as well as the payment for the electric bill, Next member."

Proabably not a twelve step program, more like a one step. ONWARD HO!!!

Yes, MY, I intend to bid.

I don't like to open bidding on an item that has days to go. I think it pushes the final price up by inviting competition.

If the bidding goes over $15 I will drop out and you are welcome to jump in.

Re: Musky Education...

Hmmm. $9.99, huh?

But $18.00 is a Buy It Now price! That's only $4.50 each, before the seller charges $10 for shipping. That would make it $7 each, with no pattern selection.

I'll stick with my $15 limit. :)

Re: Musky Education...

I recieved 4 lures in the mailbox today that exceede 8 inches. AWSOME. I am getting the itch bad now that the tackle is comming in. I'm gonna be a homless basketcase before June 5th gets here. Maybe the wife will let me run a phoneline to the garage so I can keep in touch with my buds. LET THE FEVER BEGIN!!!
