I just bought a Munro Bowrider, we think she is mid/late 70s, she is 17' long, 7' across the beam and has a 115 Johnson (74) and a spare Johnson 125. Both engines are N/S but will be used to make one good engine and will be the subject of a separate post. The boat is my main problem. I can't find any information on Munros. I know that Munro Boats was located in London Ontario and they went out of business in the 80's. Beyond that I know nothing about them. Can anyone help? I have pictures (not sure how to post them though) perhaps someone can id the boat for me, even an approximate year or model would help... Thanks

Re: Munro 17' Bowrider

It is getting a little chilly up here in Canada, so I will start this project in Spring. Here are a few shots of the boat. I suspect it will take a few months (LOL - years says wifey!) but in the end she is going to be great. Anyone who can properly identify the boat would be doing me a great favour too!

The side view: http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421577726/1.jpg
From the front:
http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421577726/0.jpg
The seats will be useful as patterns only - too rotten for anything else!
http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421577726/3.jpg
The Munro Boats logo is just visible here:
http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421577726/2.jpg

That's a nice looking project there SeaBee. It really favors a Sea Sprite I tried to buy. I like the layout and open bow. It would make a good family and fish boat.

Re: Munro 17' Bowrider

I wish my wife was of the same opinion - she can't get beyond the fact that it is sitting in HER drive and looks a mess. Serious lack of romance and imagination I guess... :(

I will split the hull in the spring and repalce the wood - she is VERY heavy and I think waterlogged. Once I have the old wood out I will flip the hull and sort out the gelcoat a bit - it is covered in small cracks and has a bit of damage on the keel. My plan is to gently sandblast the gelcoat to reduce it down to the fibreglas then redo the gelcoat. Shouldbe a better finish in the long run that way. Once that is done I will worry about the interior - seats and upholstry - perhaps by then SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED will have mellowed a bit and might even help out... nah it's never going to happen in this lifetime :p

Don't despair Seabee...for I am in the same "boat" so-to-speak. My wife looks at me like I am nuts to consider spending all this time and enrgy on an old boat, when a simple visit to the local marina we could get one of them nice shiny new ones.

Once the warm weather returns, please be sure to post pictures of your progress. I will be watching your restoration closely.

Well..... Welcome to iboats.

That iboats member has not been here in over 19 months...... I doubt he will respond.

I am going to close this thread and let it drift away into the archives.......

Please don't be shy..... it's okay to start a new thread.
