Just received a 92 evenrude electric trolling motor with foot control in pristeen shape for my Bday from my son, I have a flat area around the front of the hull, but not sure if more forward on the bow or back 3 feet from that, i can mount either place. does more forward mounting give better control?

The motor should be mounted so when it is stowed, it folds back along the gunnel. That way it is out of the way of passengers seated up front. You might consider using a quick release plate so you can quickly remove the motor for storage, security, or transport. When in use, the shaft should be at the centerline of the boat. You need to position the motor mount so the shaft clears the bow of the boat.

hmmm...never had experience with the trolling motor on the very point..bow..of the boat...mounted mine off to one side and a little back from
the bow....boat turns very fast with trolling motor...not fast straight ahead but works fine...does the job...like using it in the shallows, to get my boat around instead of using the outboard....here are some pictures...you did not say what kind of boat you have....

Re: Mounting trolling motor on bowrider?

My understanding is that to get best performance you want it to be as close to the centerline as possible. This is how I mounted mine and it seems to work really well. With this location it allows my seats to be accessible in the front while the motor is stored. One option that I really like is the quick release plate, not sure if they have something like that for yours but if they do I would highly recommend it.
