I was wondering where i would get these hooks , for the back of the boat so that i could tow a tube around the lake ? the ones that are there are loose and they are rusted and cant be retightened again, i was thinking of putting 1 inch plywood behind the new ones so i dont wreck the transom of the boat , the boat is an old Cadorette 14' with a 35hp chrysler viking. an old boat but fun. should there be a problem pulling a tube or skier behind the boat ? as i dont really wanna be pulling the back of the boat apart , just thought i would ask all the pros in the forums here. thanks for any replies

You can pick up a pair form any marine shop...or just about any hardware store..get stainless steel. The backing is a good idea BUT...make sure your transom is solid...if you got rot...probably not a good idea to pull anything! You might want to epoxy the backing to make them water-tight as well.

-JustMrWill

thanks, i knocked on the transom with my hand and seems to be solid, no evidents of rot visualy and it also appears straight with no bows . was planning on siliconing , but would the 5min epoxy be better? thanks for the help as i am new at the boating scene, my first boat. is it hard on the boat to pull a tube or skier? i would like to have some fun, but not wreck the boat either this is why i am asking , i guess better safe than sorry. thanks

Use 3m 5200 in the bolt holes to seal it... use epoxy to coat wood backing to make it "water-proof". If the engine is in good condition...the 35hp should pull a single tuber...start with that...then try 2 tubes or a double tube...if it seems to be strainning too much...don't do it.

-JustMrWill

thanks, for the replies, will use the 3m 5200 for the wholes and try it, do you think i could pull a water skier , or would a 35hp not be enough power? thanks again, also where would i get the 3m 5200 in canada as that is where i live or could i get it at a marina ,

Small waterskier...prob be alittle slow...but can give it a try...I definitly would keep the boat weight down...you...spotter and skier...anything you add will make the 35 work harder. You can order the 5200 from the iboat mega marine mall (this site)if you can't find it locally....Walmart even carries it...so you should be able to find it.

-JustMrWill

Herman, Canadian Tire also has it and any good Marine retailer should have it. :)

thanks everyone for all the great tips, found the sealent at canadian tire . and the hooks i am getting from a marina close to here , should be fun, even just tubing, or for pulling stranded boats although not all that fun. but last year we pulled a small boat in by holding on to the rope , the first and last time for that without hooks. thanks again for all the replies . it is greatly appreciated
