I have 2010 Q5sf with the 4.3. I was thinking of using the extra space in the engine compartment to store things and would like to mount a small storage box there. Is it safe to drill and mount in there? I noticed a couple of places where the floor area in there is raised up but I dont know whats under there.

I'm still looking but thought some of that room was for working on engine?

Yeah I was going for a quick in and quick out type of storage container for miscellaneous stuff.

Re: Mounting in the engine compartment

I have a few things stored in there. I have a dry box on one side with tools, oil, etc. To hold that in place I used brass clothes hooks that you would normally mount on a door. I used marine epoxy to secure the hooks on the side (not the deck) and then attatched the box to the hooks with a bungee cord. On the other side I mounted one hook the same way and I have a large water resistant flight bag that hangs on it and inside the bag are my life jackets.

It's really not a great idea to drill holes or screws into the deck, especially in that area. That being said I've done it. I mounted my spare prop holder there next to the engine. I bought gasket material to place between the floor and the base of the mount and also put gasket sealant/adhesive in with the screws. Holds fine and if I need to do any work in that area it all comes out easily except for the base which only is about an inch tall.
