I have a 40 hp mercury on a 18' Lowe boat. It cavitates bad in turns. It has no power trim or tilt and performs good except in turns. What is the best depth for this motor to be mounted? How far below the bottom of the boat should the prop or lower unit be? Thanx in advance!

Ryan

Re: Mounting an outboard

the prop is not what you worry about. put the cavitation plate( the flat plate above the prop) level with the bottom of the hull or just above. this should help.

Re: Mounting an outboard

You should post this in the prop section. There will be lots of help that will come from the guys there as there are many factors that affect your situation. Jamie is on the right track with the setting, but there will be much more to consider.
