I am working on my boat project, and i need to mount my trim pump somewhere. It's an old trim pump for a 79 merc, 115. Anything i need to take into account before mounting it? I was thinking of attaching it directly to the inside of the transom, do I need a bracket for this?

Those trim pumps have a bracket suitable for mounting to the deck. I mounted mine next to the side of the hull, under the gunwale, to get it out of the way. As long as the hoses reach and the power and control wires reach it, it can be mounted anywhere. A bracket to mount it the transom would need to be fabricated, although it would be pretty easy to make, I would think.

Mine was suitable for mounting on the transom.
There may have been 2 styles of bracket?
In any case, oil reservoir would need to be oriented properly. You want the fill and vent ports facing up.

You also have to have access to the fill hole and be able to add and check the oil.

I figured mounting to the transom would be better because it's much thicker than the floor. There's only two holes in the bracket on the trim pump. So I was thinking two big lag bolts right into the transom would be strong enough. Plus it's in a good location.

not a good idea laggin' anything inta tha transom.. more holes increase chance of water intrusion and rot.....

lag bolts suck mountin' anything on/in a boat... to much vibration thru hull.

I was wondering about vibration, better off to buy or make a bracket then? Or just mount it to the floor?

Here's my drawing of the factory bracket, from memory, for anyone who is in a similar situation
