In may of 2005 I got two (2) Rebuilt motors from Ebasic power,350 Merc's. On the first shakedown run I put less than 2 hours on both motors never taking the boat over 30mph all went well. A few weeks later I took the boat out again and noticed that the port side motor had alot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust (my exhaust are above the waterline)I noticed this at 45mph. I shut down the portside motor and tooled around for the next hour on one motor, never bringing the boat up on plane.
When I got the boat home I checked the oil and it had water in! I called Ebasic and the tech said I had either bad intake or exhaust. I drained the motor. Five days after I drained the motor I was sent to Iraq
Its now may 2007 both of the motors had water in the oilpan (the dipsticks and dipstick and dipstick tubes were out (don't ask me how I have kids lol) Both motors have fresh everything! plugs, wires, oil filters one has a new intake Mmanifold. The starter can not turn over the port motor Its is definetly STUCK.. I never tried to start the other...Sorry to be so long winded I needed to give all of the details..Thanks again

First thing, pull the plugs out of the port engine and check to see if there's water in the cylinders. Secondly, if it's clear of water, I'd pour some Marvel Mystery Oil down into each cylinder and let it set for a few days, that'll help loosen up any rust down in the cylinders and possibly free it up. And stay tuned, more help is surely to follow.

ps..... welcome home...and thanks

Definately sounds like it is hydrostatic locked. Again pull plug, try turning motor over to release water. BP penetrator and the marvil mystery oil good idea.

Welcome home! When you got the rebuilt motors, did you put on new exhaust manifolds & risers or did you use the old ones?

Re: Motor will not turnover Up date

Update: I pulled the plugs out of both motors. The port motor had water in cylinder #5 & #6. The motor would only turn about 3/4 before it would stop(with a breaker bar) I filled all the cylinders with BP Blaster and let them set for three days and to my suprise that stuff worked!
The starboard motor is not doing as well. When I tried to start the motor last week I must have jammed a piston into on of the cylinders and it wont move either way.PB Blaster is not working on that one.Do I take off the heads and tap on the piston??

Re: Motor will not turnover

If you cant turn that motor with a breaker bar and cheat pipe, tapping on the piston is not going to help.:(

How do you think you jamed a piston:confused:

If you cant get that motor to loosen up, You will probably have to pull motor and check bearings and rings.

Re: Motor will not turnover

Prior to me trying to start the motor (and not knowing what I was doing!!) I could turn the motor 3/4 way by hand with just the my socket set. I got a head of myself and blank blank impatient..lol and tried to turn the motor by using the starter! The starter made a motor made a 1/2 revolution and Stopped !

Thanks again

Is the starter jammed on the flywheel?

Re: Motor will not turnover

The starter was removed and that did not help (good trouble shooting) I removed the heads and to my suprise cylinders 8,6,5 had flash rust on the wall of the cylinders, a fair amount. The other cylinders look brand new.I am going to pull whats left of the motor send it out or get another one.But that will have to wait for about six weeks,Mama wants my to put up a fence build a deck around the pool and build a room in the garage..LOL thank you guys for your help:)
