I don't know much about boat motors.
I have a new to me pontoon boat, 24' with a 112 hp johnson v4 spl 1994, the compression is good on all 4, i took it out for the first time and it idles ok, It was hard to get going. Seems like when i put it into gear and gave it gas it shut off. I could let it ease into it and it would run, but sluggish. My 85 v4 seahorse seems like it runs better but its not pushing a pontoon. It seemed like after the long easing into it, it still wouldn't run its full capacity. I think it is the carbs, so i mixed my gas 50:1 and added a can of sea foam and ran 9 gallons through it. That did not seem to help it. My next idea is to take the carbs off and clean them or rebuild both of them. Is a high idler messing up sound right?
