I have a Johnson 100hp 2 stroke 78-79 model. Took it to the lake this weekend dropped it in fired it up, made it to a fishing spot. Shut it off fished for about an hour, Went to start it back up and the motor would turn over fine, plenty of juice,b ut would not start back up. seems to do this everytime we take it to the lake! Any suggestions? Thank you

I had an old 85hp that did that. It was the power pack. When it does that, do you have spark at the plugs?

Thank's...That has been brought to my attention before. What's the best way to check for spark when I'm on the lake?

Yes. We have just replaced the old primer bulb with a new one. It's getting enough fuel though, just seems like there's no spark. I'll have to check on a powerpack replacement.

If it's a 79' year, you got two power packs. Both going at the same time can happen on occasion. But I would investigate further before buying parts. That can get expensive. You need to find out if your losing spark to both sides or just one side. Sounds like both sides if it won't fire at all. Even losing spark to one side it should fire a little.

If your losing spark to both sides, it would "appear" to be a power coil.

You can try the "hair dryer" test. Fire it up on muffs and apply heat to the packs with a hair dryer. You can also shoot it up under the flywheel. What ever shuts the engine down or makes it not start after heating would be the probable cause.
