i would like to trade my 1987 johnson v6 limited edtition 200hp outboard for something more compatible with 1978 21ft manatee .motor runs very strong and smooth . trade for maybe 150 hp johnson or evinrude no less than 115 hp .reason for trade is my gas tank is only 30 gal you can do the math as far as the distance i can travel .i fish catfish tournaments on the james river and that limits me to a very small fishing area. thanks

Re: motor trade

I don't think you'll see any real mileage difference between a 200 and a 150 on your boat. It takes a certain amount of power to drive your boat and, assuming they weigh basically the same, a 150 will have to work a little harder than your 200 to get the job done. Are you sure you're running the right prop for your application? Wrong pitch can have you running the motor higher rpm than necessary for your needs.

Tread lightly on how you post that. ANY solicitation thread will be zapped ;) Re-read the rules.

If you have the 21 foot cuddy, I have the same boat. I currently have a 140 on it and am looking to get something bigger--like a 200 even though the hull is rated for 170 or 180. I can get 36 MPH top speed on a good day. I suspect that you would NOT be happy with a 150 or smaller engine.

I also have a 30 gallon tank and yes it is a bit small, but it will get me from, for example, Turkey point to St. Michaels or Annapolis with plenty of reserve. If I intend to do some cruising, I carry a couple of portable 6 gallon tanks.

LOL, I know the redneck solution.
Add one of those 55 gallon casting platforms.
