Hi im new to the site i hope i put this topic in the right area. I have a 1991 glasstream with 3.0 and alpha one, last year i was doing circles in lake and all of a sudden my boat stopped running. I restarted it in neutral and it started so i put in gear it stalled again. I had to use ores to get it to boat launch. It stalls in forward and reverse, i noticed when this happened my motor got a little hotter then normal to. I heard this problem is shift cable? Thanks for your time i want to get it up and rolling for some fun. Im gonna put the garden hose and muffs on and make sure water pumps ok, look for good temp and water out exhaust

First check the oil in the drive to see if there is any. Then with the motor OFF, try shifting and watch the shift plate to see if it moves and activates the shift interrupter.
You may have overheated and seized the shift cable. Other than that, if you cannot shift into forward, remove the lower unit first, then the upper ,insert a hose in the water inlet hole and test run the motor.
