Motor stalls at higher RPMs

I have a 1970 Evinrude 100 hp outboard engine. It has sat for the last five years and I just purchased it.

Out on the lake this weekend the engine would stall if I was operating at a higher RPM for more than a minute or two. Maybe about half throttle or so.

Full throttle was only producing speeds of 20 mph or so, per my gps. I don't know if that is normal or telling of a problem.

I checked the engine to see if it was overheating and it felt normal to me. not hot enough to burn me or cause discomfort when touching any part of it.

At low throttle it seemed to run for a good while although once running at low speed for a good 5 minutes or more it started to sputter or bog.

Is there a fuel reservoir on the carb that runs out and then causes starving? My suspicion is a fuel starvation issue. I was hopiong the more experienced members here might have a little more insight than my simple guess.

If the boat sits a short time, it starts up fine and runs again repeating the cycle as described above.

The good news is it gave us plenty of time to pull in some nice perch.
