Motor quits

I have a 98 Mercruiser 350 not an EFI. When I am revving the boat or when the boat is in gear or neutral the motor quits after about 20 to 30 seconds. It doesnt sound like the motor is sputtering for gas its more like someone is hitting an E stop and the motor dies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hook up a timing light, and see if when it quits if the spark stops, or if it seems to die just right before it stops sparking. Could be fuel, could be electrical. Does it fire up right after it cuts out, or what needs to occur for it to restart?

Thanks for your insight. I dont wait for anything to start the boat after it quits. The boat will start fine, runs good then quits.
