If someone can help with this one, I be so greatful. At high speeds my motor acts as if it wants to cut off. It's a 25hp Johnson 1991. I can run it at approx. 10 mph fine, but anything above that is sputters, and jerks like it's out of gas. I had the carb cleaned last year. Cost me 200 bucks by the way, and didn't fix the problem. Also replaced the fuel line. I'm thinking it has to be the fuel pump. It's the only thing left. Any advice? Are these hard to replace yourself. This problem is driving me crazy. Please help.

Thanks!!!

Re: Motor Problems(Fuel Pump?)

OK, try this. When it starts to sputter at high speed, squeeze the fuel line primer bulb. Do the RMP's pick back up?? If they do increase, suspect the following:
Fuel pump
Fuel line air leak
Improper carb float level
Trash in carb
Replacing the fuel pump is an easy job, but best tackled with the help of a service manual. Manuals can be ordered from the link at the bottom of this page.

BTW, when was the last time the water pump impellor was serviced? Is there a good flow of water from the 'tell-tale' at all speeds?
