I have had a new 4.3L fall into my lap!:D So I will be replacing my 3.7L....yes the one I just rebuilt last winter (for anyone who remembers) I have yet to decide weather to strip the 3.7 and sell as parts as a hole package......but anyways the reason I am posting is I am trying to find the best/simplest way to build the frames the motor mounts will sit on in the boat. The 3.7 is a single front mount and the 4.3 has side mounts.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to complete this?

Thanks

Re: Motor mounts frames

2, 2x4 hardwood boards laminated together or 2x4 demesional lumber , round over all the edges, put them on their side and glass them in to the hull.

Temporarily mount the engine and rest it on boards or hang it from a hoist so you can measure what size pieces you need.

plus one on what drewp said.

there are variables.....

get your motor mounts and isolators first....!!!!

dont know if any came with the motor....

measure crank shaft centerline from the out drive hole.
then take an approx mount/isolator height compaired to the crank shaft centerline on your motor.

this will give you the height of your motor timbers.

in the link below.....there is a detailed over built motor cage/timber mount in the thread...use the index.

cheers

Ayuh,... Along the lines of what Oops is sayin',...

I hang the motor, in place, with the rear motor mount bolts, in place, on a crane,...
Then stuff the alignment bar in through the gimbel bearing...
Then you can measure Exactly where the new wooden mounts need to be..

For the wooden mounting blocks,... I fab/ laminate up scraps of plywood...
No reason to get fancy, 'n most hardwoods Rot to quickly...
