Motor mounting hardware for reinstallation-what, and in what order?

I am realizing as I look through everything that I did not do a great job of organizing the nuts and bolts when I removed my motor for my restore. What is needed, and in what order, for the front motor mounts where it attaches to the inner transom plate. I guess this might actually be considered the rear mounts. The motor is an 87 4.3 and tbe drive is an alpha one Gen one. I may just order all new motor mounting hardware if I can figure out what to order and how much it will be.

This should be more help...

Engine service manual

Have a look in section 2B, page 6.... Might I suggest you use new lower lock nuts. They're aluminium and are easily damaged in the removal process. Also put plenty of grease on them... You'll be glad in a few years when you need to pull the engine again....

Those are the rear mounts, not the front mounts.

Sounds good! I will get new whatever you guys suggest while its out. What about the mounts on the other side of the motor, that the lag bolts go through. Do they wear out?

I think I'm gonna order new fiber washers, lock nuts, and "double wound lock washers" a search on iboats store didn't yield anything.

Never seen one wear out...

You probably need to go genuine for those...

some non-balance shaft 4.3L engines from the mid 80's had fluid mounts in the front, and they do wear out

Can the genuine parts not be gotten from iboats? Does that mean I'd need to call and get it from a marina?

And I believe I have the fluid mounts. Seen here:

From the prices I see on those from a brief search, they may have to wait.

yes, you do

there should be two wires that go from the lag bolts to the top of the mount - you do not have these wires, they are an indicator of mount wear

there needs to be slack in the wires, then you know the mounts are good, when the mounts wear and settle the wires loose slack and become tight - indicating a worn mount

seeing as the wires have been removed from your mounts, it would seem feasible they are worn and need replacing

not sure if they are available on iboats

Alright, I will put them on the list of parts I need to get. What about the hardware for the rear mounts? I don't see it on iboats either.

Those are not fluid mounts, and I see nothing wrong with the one in the picture. Those mounts seldom break, and if not broken, I sure wouldn't change them.

Have a look at this Page from the manual.

Ah I see. Any money I can save in this rebuild process is a blessing! I want it to be right, and safe, but anything I don't have to spend I won't.
