I was told, and maybe I am wrong, but that you could use an engine from a car and place it in a boat. I am looking to put a motor from a Chevy Blazer into my 1989 Glasstream in place of the Mercruiser 120hp that is there already. Is this possible, or do I need to buy another Mercruiser engine? If this is in the wrong topic, I appologize.

Re: Motor modification

you will have to marinize all the electronics. they have to meet USCG standards. mercruiser/volvo use a lot of GM blocks. but i believe they have heavier cams, etc. to take the high revs of the marine used.. the average auto engine runs between 2000 and 3000 rpms, marines have to run constantly at 4500 and above. you might post this in the merc/volvo i/o forum.

You'll also need to marinize all of the crankcase vents and get a marine carburetor. Don't want any fumes building up in the bilge.

Makes boat go foom!
